Israel PM Netanyahu lauds US President Trump over first phase of the Gaza peace deal

Guwahati: Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister, Israel this morning thanked US President Donald Trump for his leadership and unwavering efforts as Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of the Gaza peace plan. 

Netanyahu thanked US President Trump for his leadership, partnership and commitment to the safety of Israel and freedom of its hostages. The Israeli PM termed the development as a diplomatic success and a national and moral victory for the State of Israel. As part of the first phase of the deal, Hamas would release all hostages, while Israel would withdraw its troops back to an agreed line.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “With the approval of the first phase of the plan, all our hostages will be brought home. This is a diplomatic success and a national and moral victory for the State of Israel. From the beginning, I made it clear: we will not rest until all our hostages return and all goals are achieved”.

“Through steadfast resolve, powerful military action and the great efforts of our great friend and ally President Trump, we have reached this crucial turning point. I thank President Trump for his leadership, his partnership and his unwavering commitment to the safety of Israel and the freedom of our hostages”, added Netanyahu. 

Meanwhile US President Donald Trump on Wednesday proudly announced the agreement on the first phase of the Gaza peace plan, calling it a ‘historic and unprecedented’ event. Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said, “As part of the first phase of the deal, Palestine militant group Hamas would release all hostages, while Israel would withdraw its troops back to an agreed line. This is a first step toward “strong, durable and everlasting peace”.

The US President also thanked mediators Qatar, Egypt and Turkey adding, “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS”. The Israel- Palestine conflict is a longstanding dispute over land, self-determination and identity with deep historical and religious roots. According to authorities in Gaza, around 67,000 people have been killed in Israel’s attack till now. In retaliation, Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel in 2023, killing over 1200 people while Israel responded with airstrikes and a blockade on Gaza, resulting in significant Palestinian casualties and displacement.
