Guwahati: The two-day Jairangam Fringes Assam 2026 is set to bring a vibrant showcase of contemporary theatre to the city on March 28 and 29, featuring diverse productions and discussions on the evolving landscape of performing arts. Organised as part of the larger Jairangam Theatre Festival, the event is presented by 3M Dot Bands Theatre Family Society in collaboration with Jirsong Theatre Group. The festival opens on March 28 with the Assamese play Men in a Box, written and directed by Ripam Bharadwaj and presented by Shristi Uniting Culture & Society, Guwahati. The 45-minute production explores themes of fear, isolation, and psychological conflict, centring on a character named ‘Manuh’ who withdraws into a metaphorical box to escape a turbulent world before confronting reality. Following the performance, a talk show titled “Theatre of Tomorrow” will feature noted theatre personalities including Robijita Gogoi, Asha Kuthari Choudhary, and Ripam Bharadwaj. Moderated by Raina Bhattacharya, the session will discuss emerging trends and the future direction of theatre.
