Jayanta Choudhury: Hope for Children & the Environment

Jayanta Choudhury, a dedicated social worker and assistant teacher from Hojai, Assam, has spent over two decades transforming lives and nurturing nature. With a heart for the differently abled and a passion for environmental conservation, his journey is a testament to selfless service and relentless dedication.

Champion for Differently Abled Children

Since 2006, Jayanta has tirelessly worked for the welfare of differently abled children in Hojai and surrounding areas. Through mass awareness campaigns, free distribution of leaflets, banners, and tableaus, he has educated communities about disability, associated diseases, and government schemes. Over the years, he has organized competitions and events, collaborating with NGOs to celebrate World Disability Day, benefiting more than 3,000 children. During the pandemic, he became a true “Covid warrior,” conducting door-to-door awareness drives and distributing ration and essential supplies to families of differently abled children. His efforts have earned him multiple awards, including the Best Teacher Award from the Hojai District Administration and nominations for national recognition.

Guardian of Green

The Neem Sapling MissionJayanta’s commitment to the environment is equally inspiring. Since 2008, he has distributed over 42,000 neem saplings, organizing plantation drives at schools, events, and community gatherings. In 2025, he spearheaded a special drive under the Government of India’s “Maa Kay Naam Ek Paedh” initiative, distributing 7,500 saplings across 51 schools in Hojai District. His mission goes beyond planting trees—he educates students and communities about the importance of environmental protection, making every sapling a symbol of hope and renewal.

A Voice for the Past and Present

Jayanta’s contributions extend beyond social work and environmentalism. In 2002, his curiosity and courage led to the archaeological discovery of ancient temple ruins and artifacts in Doboka, earning him appreciation from the Director of Archaeology. His journalism career, spanning from 1989 to 2004, saw him contribute impactful articles and reports, winning state-level awards for his work. His ability to connect with people through words and actions has made him a respected figure in Hojai.
