Guwahati: In a significant political development ahead of the Assam Legislative Assembly elections, Jayanta Kumar Das has resigned from all positions, including his primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh unit. In his resignation letter dated March 20, Das cited “personal inconveniences” as the reason for stepping down and relinquished all responsibilities and privileges associated with the party with immediate effect.

The move comes just a day after Das publicly expressed dissatisfaction over being denied a party ticket from the Dispur constituency, which he was reportedly aspiring to contest. The Dispur seat has been allotted to Pradyut Bordoloi, who recently joined the BJP after switching from the Indian National Congress. “I hereby tender my resignation from all positions including primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Assam Pradesh, Assam,” Das stated in his letter, confirming his complete dissociation from the party.
The resignation has sparked discussions within political circles, with observers viewing it as a sign of internal discontent within the party ranks ahead of the crucial state elections. Such developments may impact party dynamics as political parties gear up for the upcoming electoral contest in Assam.
