Jiribam Administration Orders Removal of Encroachments from Public Land by March 15

Jiribam, March 13: The district administration of Jiribam district has directed the removal of all unauthorised encroachments from public places and government land in the district by 3 pm on March 15.

In an order issued on March 12, Krishna Kumar stated that the administration had observed several instances of illegal occupation and temporary fencing through the construction of house extensions, shops, sheds and other structures in town areas and public spaces.

According to the order, such encroachments on government land in Jiribam town have been causing inconvenience to the public, obstructing traffic movement and creating safety hazards and public nuisance for commuters.

Invoking powers under the Manipur Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 1978, the deputy commissioner directed all unauthorised occupants to remove structures, materials and debris from public areas within the stipulated deadline.

The administration warned that failure to comply with the directive would invite strict penal action under relevant laws. It further stated that eviction, demolition and removal of the structures would be carried out by the district administration, police and other line departments without further notice if the encroachments are not cleared in time.

The order also mentioned that the cost incurred for removing the structures and debris during the eviction drive would be recovered from the concerned encroachers.

Copies of the directive have been forwarded to several authorities, including the Jiribam District Police, to ensure adequate security during the eviction operation, and to the District Information Office for wider publicity of the order.
