Guwahati: The Uparhali Ronangan Theatre Group, a popular drama group from Uparhali village under Palashbari constituency, staged the powerful play “Jiya Marom” written by Mahesh Kalita. The play was performed in the presence of over 5,000 theatre enthusiasts at the Uparhali Namghar premises.
The play was directed by actor-director Gautam Thakuria, and the performances of the cast were widely appreciated. The drama extravaganza was inaugurated by Hemanga Thakuria, local MLA, Palashbari constituency, in the presence of Ajiit Chandra Thakuriya, President of Uparhali Raiz Goyraha, and Pabitra Kumar Talukdar, Secretary and a meritorious teacher.

Before the play, a candlelight ceremony and tribute were held to pay homage to the recently deceased renowned lyricist, music composer, actor, and singer Zubeen Garg. The audience paid their respects to the legendary artist through a soulful rendition of “Mayabini Ratir Bukut.”
During the event, 10 veteran theatre personalities from the region were felicitated for their outstanding contributions to the field of drama and cultural activities. The awardees included Rajen Chandra Das, Paresh Talukdar, Dhaneswar Talukdar, Suren Thakuriya, Maheswar Thakuria, Bhogeswar Thakuria, Rameshwar Talukdar, Hemanta Thakuria, Ripu Kumar Talukdar, and Dhananjay Talukdar. They were honored with traditional Assamese scarves, Fulam Japi, and Sambordhana Patra by MLA Hemanga Thakuria, Jyotirmoy Thakuria, President of Ranangan Natya Gosthi and other dignitaries.
