Journalist Attacked in Dibrugarh, Press Fraternity Demands Strict Action

Dibrugarh:  A local television journalist was seriously injured after being attacked by miscreants on Friday night near Nirmali Gaon in Assam’s Dibrugarh town, sparking outrage among the media fraternity.

The victim, Hiranya Bora, a reporter with NK TV, sustained injuries on his chest, mouth, and shoulder after being assaulted with a helmet and a sharp weapon. Bora and a friend were returning home when the attack took place.

The attacker has been identified as Nibaran Gogoi of Mancotta area, who is currently absconding following the incident. According to Bora, the assailant shouted, “You did news on Trading FX, you should be killed,” before launching the attack.

The assault has drawn widespread condemnation from journalists and media bodies. The Greater Dibrugarh Press Club also condemned the assault and urged authorities to ensure swift justice. Police have launched a manhunt for Nibaran Gogoi, and investigations are underway.

The incident adds to growing concerns over the increasing attacks on journalists across Assam in recent months.
