Guwahati: Kabir Narayan Deka pulled off a major upset by defeating second seed Tanish Debnath in the Boys’ Singles (Under-12) category at the ninth edition of the Guwahati Open Junior Tennis Championship 2026, currently underway at the Rudra Singha Sports Complex. In a dominant display, Kabir Deka outplayed Debnath 6-2 in the second round, emerging as one of the standout performers of the day. Apart from this upset, all other seeded players across categories progressed smoothly to the next rounds.

In the Under-10 combined singles quarterfinals, Chinmoy Boro, Pragnay Mittal, Mahijit Boro, and Divyansh Baruah registered convincing wins to advance further in the competition. The Boys’ Under-12 category saw notable victories from Dhanush Mahanta, Deeptanshu Sonowal, Jyotir Aditya Barua, and Priyangshu Deka, among others. In the Under-14 boys’ segment, players like Anirban Deka, Krishang Borkoch, Bishan Kashyap, and Nishan Das delivered strong performances to move into the next round.
In the girls’ events, Suzanne Lourenbon and Ayushri Nath advanced to the next stage in the Under-18 category, while Bhavyashree Barua secured a hard-fought 7-5 win over Aradhya Barua in the Under-14 quarterfinal. Organised by the Guwahati Tennis Association, the championship continues to showcase emerging tennis talent from the region, with exciting matches expected in the coming rounds.
