Kalyan Bhagawati Resigns from Youth Congress, Says He Will Join BJP

Guwahati, Feb 18: In another setback to the Congress following the exit of Bhupen Kumar Borah, senior leader Kalyan Bhagawati stepped down from his posts in the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress.

Bhagawati, who served as State General Secretary of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress and its Media Vice Chairman, submitted his resignation letter to the party president, seeking to be relieved of all responsibilities. In his letter dated February 16, 2026, he cited personal reasons and unavoidable circumstances for his decision.

He requested the leadership to accept his resignation at the earliest and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the organisation. Bhagawati also thanked colleagues for their support and trust during his tenure.

Speaking to media, he said that he, along with Borah and around 100 others, would join the Bharatiya Janata Party on February 22.
