Guwahati: The District Magistrate of Kamrup Metropolitan, Sumit Sattawan, has issued an order regulating public access to the cremation site of late singer Zubeen Garg at Hatimura, Kamarkuchi, to preserve its sanctity and ensure orderly visits.
As per the directive, the cremation ground will remain open to visitors from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, while entry beyond these hours will be strictly prohibited. The order also bans the consumption, serving, or distribution of liquor within and around the premises, and denies entry to individuals under the influence of alcohol or intoxicants.
The decision follows consultations with local stakeholders and community representatives to maintain the site’s dignity as a place of homage to the iconic artiste.
Effective immediately, the order entrusts local police and administrative officials with enforcement responsibilities across the Kamrup Metropolitan District.
Authorities stated that the move aims to preserve the sanctity of the memorial site while allowing admirers to pay their respects in a disciplined and respectful manner.
