GUWAHATI, Aug. 7: The Kamrup Metropolitan District Road Safety Committee has directed officials to intensify monitoring of flyovers, regulate e-rickshaw movement and ensure strict enforcement of passenger safety measures by 24×7 bars and hotels in Guwahati.
The directions were issued at a meeting chaired by Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner Swapnil Paul at the District Commissioner’s Office. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the district administration, traffic police, transport, public works, health and excise departments.
The District Commissioner reviewed the implementation of decisions taken at the previous meeting, with a focus on improving road safety across the city.
Special attention was given to incidents of two-wheelers skidding on the Maharaja Prithu Flyover during the rainy season. Paul directed the committee’s sub-committee to conduct regular inspections of all flyovers under its jurisdiction and take timely preventive measures to reduce accidents.
The committee also discussed the regulation and rational management of e-rickshaws to ensure smoother and more orderly traffic movement in the city.
The meeting reviewed safety measures for customers of establishments operating round the clock and directed all 24×7 bars and hotels to continue providing mandatory pick-up and drop-off facilities.
The District Commissioner instructed the Excise Department and the District Transport Officer (Enforcement) to maintain regular vigilance and ensure compliance with the directive.
The committee emphasised the need for closer coordination among departments and the timely implementation of practical measures to strengthen road safety and traffic management in Guwahati.
