Kamrup Police Seize Yaba Tablets Worth ₹7.5 Crore, Two Arrested

Kamrup Police on Monday seized a major consignment of psychotropic substances valued at approximately ₹7.5 crore during a targeted anti-narcotics operation in the district.

The seizure was made by a police team led by ASP (Headquarters) Kalyan Pathak, which intercepted around 50,000 Yaba tablets weighing close to five kilograms. Police officials said the contraband had been concealed in specially designed secret compartments to evade detection.

ASP Pathak said the operation was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into organised drug trafficking networks active in the region. “The estimated market value of the recovered tablets is around ₹7.50 crore, which reflects the scale of the illegal drug trade we are dealing with,” he said.

Two persons, identified as Faizuddin Ali and Mohiruddin, both residents of Chatla village under Sarthebari Police Station, were arrested at the spot. Police said legal action has been initiated against the accused under relevant provisions of law.

Officials described the seizure as another significant breakthrough in Kamrup Police’s sustained crackdown on narcotics syndicates. Surveillance and intelligence-based operations have been intensified in recent months to disrupt drug supply chains operating through the district.

Earlier this year, police teams led by Pathak had busted a trafficking network near Baihata Chariali, seizing large quantities of psychotropic substances and arresting several suspects linked to cross-border smuggling. In separate cases, heroin consignments were recovered from vehicles bound for Guwahati, while coordinated raids in rural pockets of Kamrup led to the seizure of synthetic drugs being circulated among vulnerable groups.

Police said the latest operation highlights both the increasingly sophisticated methods used by traffickers to conceal contraband and the growing effectiveness of enforcement efforts. Kamrup Police reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance approach against drug trafficking and organised crime in the district.
