Goalpara: The Kanaklata Baruah Inter-District Women’s Cricket Tournament 2025 began on Tuesday at DN Stadium, Goalpara, with 34 teams from across Assam competing for top honours. The event is being organized by the District Sports Association under the aegis of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA).
The opening clash saw the host team Goalpara cruise to a dominant nine-wicket victory over Rangia. Captain Shahinara Hussain Ahmed anchored the innings with a composed knock, while Araaraina Sonowal’s stellar all-round display earned her the Player of the Match award.

In an earlier fixture, Guwahati stamped its authority with a comfortable 37-run win against Bilasipara. Ruhina Pegu shone with both bat and ball, picking up the Player of the Match title for her all-round performance.
Officials from ACA and local sports authorities highlighted the significance of the tournament, noting that it not only strengthens the platform for women’s cricket in Assam but also honours the legacy of freedom fighter Kanaklata Baruah, after whom the championship is named.

The tournament, which will run across multiple venues, promises spirited contests as young women cricketers from every corner of the state showcase their skills.
