Kathalmuri Villagers Protest Over Incomplete Road Project in Bajali

Bajali: Residents of Kathalmuri village in Assam’s Bajali district staged a protest on Friday, voicing strong resentment over an incomplete road project that has caused years of hardship.

Chanting slogans like “Ranjeet Kumar Dass Go Back” and “Mukut Kalita Useless”, villagers accused local leaders of neglect and mismanagement. The agitation was triggered by allegations of irregularities in the project, which was inaugurated with a foundation plaque over two years ago but remains unfinished.

The poor state of the road has left nearly 50 families struggling with daily commutes, transportation of goods, and access to essential services. Locals directed their anger particularly at Mukut Kalita, a native of Kathalmuri and current BJP Secretary of Bajali district, holding him responsible for the delay and lack of progress.

Frustrated by repeated inaction, villagers staged a massive protest demanding urgent government intervention. They warned that unless immediate steps are taken to complete the road, they will intensify their agitation in the coming days. Officials are yet to respond to the villagers’ demands.
