Itanagar: In a significant joint operation, law enforcement agencies from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have arrested a central figure in the inter-state narcotics trade. The arrest, a result of strong coordination between the Seijosa Police Station in Arunachal Pradesh and the Charduar Police Station in Assam’s Sonitpur district, marks a crucial development in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking across the border region.
The suspect, identified as Nazirul Islam, a 32-year-old resident of Konamukh Kekakuli Nepaligaon in Assam, was apprehended on October 26. The coordinated action was initiated based on specific intelligence. The targeted raid was conducted under the supervision of Pakke Kessang Superintendent of Police, Tasi Darang, and Seijosa SDPO Sashi Dore. The on-ground team was led by Officer-in-Charge SI Sang Thinley, and included SI Makbul Hussain, SI D W Kharma, Constable Nyape Ete, and driver PN Thongchi.
Police officials confirmed that Islam was a key suspect in two pending narcotics cases registered at the Seijosa Police Station. The investigations into these cases had previously been stalled due to the suspect being absconding. Law enforcement anticipates that the arrest will now enable both cases to reach their logical conclusions. Investigators are currently focused on probing Islam’s network, specifically aiming to uncover the supply chain and identify any potential accomplices operating across various district borders. Officials have specifically credited the success of the operation to the robust collaboration demonstrated by the police forces from Pakke Kessang, Sonitpur, and Bishwanath Chariali districts.
