Guwahati: The Guwahati Press Club (GPC) has concluded its recent elections, electing senior journalist Khagen Kalita as President and Amarendra Deka as General Secretary.
The elections saw enthusiastic participation from the city’s media fraternity, reflecting active engagement in shaping the leadership of one of Assam’s leading media institutions.
In the presidential contest, Khagen Kalita secured 563 votes, reaffirming his long-standing contribution and commitment to the press community.
Amarendra Deka won the General Secretary post with 346 votes after seven rounds of counting, emerging victorious by a margin of 70 votes.
Other key appointments include Shah Alam as Assistant General Secretary, Padmini Hazarika as Assistant General Secretary (Reserved), and Deepankar Das as Sports Secretary, who secured 527 votes with a margin of 188.
The newly elected office bearers are expected to focus on professional development, ethical journalism, and safeguarding journalists’ interests.
