Kokrajhar Declares Dry Days from April 7–9 and on Counting Day for Peaceful Polls

Guwahati, March 28: P. Uday Praveen has announced the enforcement of “Dry Days” across Kokrajhar to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the upcoming Assembly elections.

As per the official order, the restrictions will be in effect from 5:00 PM on April 7, 2026, until 5:00 PM on April 9, 2026, covering the mandatory 48-hour period leading up to the end of polling. The directive has been issued under provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and the Assam Excise Rules.

The administration has also declared May 4, 2026—the day of counting of votes—as a Dry Day, with the prohibition remaining in place until the completion of the counting process, including any re-poll if necessary.

During the notified period, all liquor-related establishments such as wholesale depots, IMFL retail outlets, bars, hotels, restaurants, clubs, and country spirit shops will remain closed. Authorities will also impose strict checks on the storage and possession of liquor, particularly in unlicensed locations.

The district administration has cautioned that any violation of the order will invite legal action under the Assam Excise Act and applicable election laws, urging residents and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the directives to maintain law and order.
