GUWAHATI, Sept 7: Kokrajhar Police recovered 11 cattle during two separate operations against alleged illegal livestock smuggling, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
In a post on X, Sarma said one person was arrested in connection with the operations. He added that police were tracing the network allegedly involved in the smuggling activity, including those operating upstream and downstream of the transportation chain.
The latest operations came amid intensified action against suspected cattle smuggling across Assam.
On September 6, South Salmara Police seized 51 cattle and a boat during a patrol operation and apprehended one person, Sarma said in another post. He said the action followed an earlier seizure in Dhubri and highlighted efforts to prevent cattle smuggling through both road and river routes.
Sarma praised the Kokrajhar, South Salmara and Assam Police personnel involved in the operations and said enforcement against suspected cattle smuggling would continue across the state.
