“Kola Yatra–2025”concludes in Tezpur

Tezpur: “Kola Yatra–2025” a three-day art workshop held in Tezpur from November 8 to 10 concluded on Monday with an atmosphere of deep artistic appreciation. The event saw the participation of internationally acclaimed artist and noted poet Amit Dutta, based in New Delhi, who captivated art enthusiasts with a spontaneous and expressive live painting session.

Prominent artist and a poet Dutta, inspired by the profound experience he had the previous night at the Zubeen Garg Kshetra, where he witnessed the emotional tribute paid by thousands to the legendary singer Zubeen Garg, created a special artwork on-site, in the presence of participating students and art lovers during the workshop. The artwork, reflecting Zubeen’s life, vision and the cultural attachment of Assam’s people, became the highlight of the workshop and drew enthusiastic admiration during the valedictory ceremony. “The kind of respect and heartfelt devotion the people of Assam show towards their artists is truly rare in the world”, Acclaimed artist and poet Dutta remarked

The workshop organised under the initiative of noted Tezpur-based artist and President of the event, Ratumoni Das, also a winner of the President’s Award continued the tradition of inviting renowned national and international artists to guide young learners each year.

The valedictory function, held at the Asomiya Club Art Gallery, opened with a soulful Borgeet by Rimjhim Patangia. Noted attendees in the event included Writer and retired professor Dr. Satish Chandra Bhattacharya, former Education Minister Brindaban Goswami, and nationally acclaimed actor Dr. Jahanara Begum.

Former education minister Brindaban Goswami praised the workshop as a “courageous and visionary effort”, adding that Tezpur has always been a nurturing ground for refined artistic expression. He fondly recalled several late artists associated with Tezpur, reflecting on their legacy with heartfelt nostalgia. Dr. Satish Chandra Bhattacharya highlighted the historical richness of Tezpur’s ancient sculpture and architecture, noting that these heritage markers continue to illuminate the city’s artistic identity even today. Actress Dr. Jahanara Begum commended the contributions of Ratumoni Das and particularly acknowledged the support of her mother Anima Das, calling her encouragement “deeply inspiring.”

The ceremony also honored distinguished film producer and noted physician Dr. Gopendra Mohan Das, President of JB Productions, for his cultural commitment and artistic contributions.  A total of 21 trainees were awarded certificates by Amit Dutta. President of the organising committee Ratumoni Das, Secretary Nabaneeta Sarma and senior patron Anima Dasextended warm felicitations to Amit Dutta and his wife Archana Dutta. The event concluded with an enchanting poetic recital by Amit Dutta, whose blend of shayari and reflective verse left the audience deeply moved.
