Koridang Bypoll Sees Brisk Early Voting in Nagaland

Kohima, April 9: The Koridang Assembly by-election in Nagaland witnessed a strong voter turnout in the early hours of polling, reflecting active participation by the electorate.

According to the Election Commission of India, the constituency recorded a turnout of 19.80 per cent as of 9 a.m., the highest among seats where by-elections are currently underway. Polling began at 7 a.m. and has been progressing steadily, with voters arriving at polling stations since early morning.

The bypoll was necessitated following the death of veteran BJP leader and sitting MLA Imkong L. Imchen.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded his son, Daochier I. Imchen, while the Indian National Congress (Congress) has nominated T. Chalukumba Ao, making it a closely watched contest.

Authorities have made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful polling, with enhanced security deployment and polling personnel stationed across all booths.

Counting of votes for the bypoll is scheduled for May 4.
