Kuki CSO Committee Denies Role in Ukhrul Ambush, Warns Against ‘Misinformation’

Imphal, April 20: The Kuki CSO Working Committee has issued a strong rebuttal to remarks made by Sword Vashum, denying any involvement of the Kuki community in the April 18 ambush in Ukhrul district and cautioning against what it described as “dangerous misinformation.”

In a detailed statement, the committee said allegations linking the Kuki community to the incident were “baseless and provocative,” warning that such claims could aggravate tensions in an already volatile environment. It rejected assertions that Kukis had “imposed war,” terming them false and malicious.

While expressing regret over the deaths of two civilians in the incident, the panel called for restraint and urged all stakeholders to rely on verified facts rather than rhetoric.

The committee also criticised Vashum’s recent statements, alleging that they had contributed to rising tensions on the ground. It demanded that authorities initiate a suo motu FIR against him, claiming his remarks had the potential to incite further instability.

Responding to claims related to land ownership, the committee asserted that Kuki villages in Ukhrul are officially recognised and supported by valid government records.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace and dialogue, the committee called for responsible public discourse, while warning that it would take necessary steps to defend the community if threatened.
