Kuki-Zo Council Condemns Bomb Blasts in Churachandpur, Calls Attack a Threat to Peace and Public Safety

Imphal, Jan 5: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) on January 5 strongly denounced a bomb explosion allegedly carried out by unidentified miscreants at Gamnomphai village near the Seitol area of Manipur’s Churachandpur district, calling it a grave threat to peace, public safety, and communal harmony.

According to the council, multiple explosions were reported between 5:40 am and 8:00 am, leaving several civilians injured and triggering widespread panic among residents. Describing the incident as deeply disturbing and irresponsible, the KZC said the act amounted to violence against innocent people and posed a serious challenge to efforts aimed at restoring normalcy in the region.

In a statement issued by its Information and Publicity wing, the council expressed particular concern that the blasts occurred in and around a government-designated buffer zone. These zones, the KZC noted, were established to prevent confrontation between communities and to safeguard civilian lives, making any violation especially alarming.

The council emphasised that buffer zones are neutral and highly sensitive areas that must be respected by all parties at all times. It warned that violations of such zones undermine the work of security forces and contribute to fear, mistrust, and a sense of insecurity among the general public.

The KZC also highlighted the unfortunate timing of the incident, noting that it took place during the Christmas–New Year festive period, traditionally a time of peace, reflection, and communal harmony. Instead of fostering calm, the explosions disrupted daily life and threatened the fragile stability that communities have been striving to rebuild amid prolonged tensions.

Calling for accountability, the Kuki-Zo Council urged the authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial investigation and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice without delay. It also appealed to security forces to strengthen vigilance in and around buffer zones to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace, the council appealed to all sections of society to refrain from violence and to respect existing mechanisms designed to protect civilians and maintain stability in the region.
