The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has extended a warm welcome to President Droupadi Murmu ahead of her two-day visit to Manipur beginning December 11, while urging her to acknowledge the continued plight of the Kuki-Zo community displaced by the state’s prolonged ethnic conflict. In a statement issued from its Lamka headquarters, the council said the President’s arrival carries “deep significance” for communities still grappling with trauma and uncertainty.
President Murmu is scheduled to attend official programmes in Imphal as well as Senapati district during her visit. However, the KZC expressed hope that the President, herself a tribal leader, would also consider visiting Kuki-Zo areas to meet victims first-hand. The organisation said such an engagement would provide emotional reassurance to people who have endured months of displacement and insecurity.
The council emphasised that it holds President Murmu in the highest regard, describing her as someone who understands the dignity, identity and challenges of tribal communities across India. It appealed to her to take note of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Kuki-Zo settlements, where families continue to face instability, targeted violence and conditions they say amount to ethnic cleansing.
Calling for justice, restoration and lasting peace, the KZC expressed hope that the President’s visit will help draw overdue national attention to the suffering of the community and pave the way for meaningful intervention.
