Imphal, Jan 13: Security forces have arrested a militant of a banned outfit for his alleged role in a bomb explosion at a fuel station in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, police said on January 13.
The accused, identified as a 35-year-old active cadre of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), was apprehended from the Komnao Makha Leikai area of Kakching district. According to police, the militant was involved in an attack in which a bomb was hurled at the Elidas fuel station in Moirang Thana Leikai around 8 pm on January 8.
The explosion, though causing no injuries, led to an indefinite shutdown of fuel stations across the valley areas of the state as a precautionary measure, triggering concern over public safety and law and order.
Police said the arrested militant’s associates allegedly linked to the attack have been identified, and operations are underway to trace and apprehend them.
In a separate operation, security forces also arrested a cadre of another banned outfit, PREPAK (Pro), from Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai in Imphal West district on January 12, an official said.
