Lahdoigarh–Rangluwa Road in Ruins; Charaipung Residents Demand Urgent Repair

Sivasagar: Residents of the Charaipung area in Assam’s Charaideo district are enduring severe hardship as the Lahdoigarh–Rangluwa road, a key route connecting Assam with Arunachal Pradesh, continues to deteriorate without repair.

The road, which runs through the historically significant Lahdoigarh region, has been in disrepair for years. Its condition worsened after the violent incident of August 14, 2010, when a group of Arunachal Pradesh residents, allegedly supported by the NSCN militant outfit, attacked the Charaipung police station and damaged several homes and tea gardens. The clash triggered a prolonged border standoff, with both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh staking claim to the area. The tensions eased only after the Assam government set up a BOP camp near Lahdoigarh.

Despite improved security, the road itself has remained neglected. Large potholes and deep pits now make travel extremely difficult, affecting daily commuting, emergency movement, and access to essential services. Locals say the road has become nearly unusable during the rainy season.

The Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has urged the state government to intervene immediately. The organisation stated that the dilapidated condition of the road is not only inconveniencing residents but also stalling the region’s economic development.

AJYCP leaders appealed for swift repair work to ensure safe and reliable passage for the people of Charaipung, stressing that the issue has been ignored for far too long.
