SUALKUCHI, Sept 21: A long-standing land dispute between two families allegedly led to a violent clash in Bamundi under Sualkuchi Police Station in Kamrup district on Sunday night, leaving a father and son seriously injured.
According to information available, the dispute involved two brothers, Manik Kalita and Chandradhar Kalita, who had been engaged in a land-related dispute for several years. The situation allegedly escalated following an argument, during which Manik Kalita and his son Apurba Kalita allegedly attacked Chandradhar Kalita and his son Dimbeswar Kalita with sharp weapons.
Dimbeswar sustained serious injuries and reportedly fell unconscious. Local residents rescued the injured father and son and took them to Sualkuchi Hospital for treatment.
The injured duo later alleged that after attacking them, Manik and Apurba injured their own hands with a machete and subsequently lodged a complaint against them at Sualkuchi Police Station. Chandradhar and Dimbeswar also approached the police after receiving medical treatment and lodged a complaint regarding the incident.
Police received complaints from both sides and visited the spot late on Sunday night to assess the situation. Police assured that the incident would be investigated impartially and that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
The incident reportedly created tension in the Bamundi area.
