Landslide Blocks Zemithang-Tawang Road Near Shakti in Arunachal Pradesh

A landslide blocked the Zemithang-Tawang road near Shakti village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, disrupting connectivity in the remote border area.

The blockage occurred along the road connecting Zemithang with Tawang, close to the India-China border. Details on the extent of the landslide, vehicular movement and restoration efforts were not immediately available.

Shakti is a remote border village in the Zemithang circle and is home to local communities as well as yak-grazing communities. The strategically sensitive frontier area also regularly sees medical and civic action camps conducted by the Indian Army for residents and pastoral communities.

Road connectivity in Tawang and adjoining frontier areas remains important for civilian movement and logistical access. Heavy rainfall has previously triggered landslides and disrupted key roads in the region, prompting clearance and restoration efforts by the Border Roads Organisation.
