Landslide Near Kebang Disrupts Highway Connectivity Between East Siang and West Siang Districts

Itanagar, May 24: Vehicular movement along the National Highway connecting Pasighat to Boleng and Aalo in Arunachal Pradesh was disrupted on Sunday, May 24, after a major landslide blocked a section of the road near Kebang in Siang district.

The affected highway, considered an important transport corridor linking East Siang, Siang and West Siang districts, was completely cut off after debris covered the road, bringing traffic movement to a standstill. Vehicles were unable to move through the affected stretch following the incident.

Officials said continuous and heavy rainfall across the Siang region triggered the landslide and also resulted in flooding in multiple areas.

In view of the situation, the administration advised commuters and travellers to avoid using the route until restoration work is completed and traffic movement resumes.

Authorities are expected to initiate road clearance operations to remove the debris and restore connectivity in the affected region.

The ongoing rainfall has also raised concerns about the possibility of additional landslides and road disruptions in vulnerable hill areas of the state. Residents in affected locations have been urged to remain alert and exercise caution amid the prevailing weather conditions.
