LGBIA Achieves ZWL Platinum Status with Over 99% Waste Diversion

Guwahati: In a major boost to its sustainability efforts, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) has earned the prestigious Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) Platinum – Class I Rating. The airport achieved an impressive waste diversion rate of over 99.9 per cent by implementing the 5R framework—Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle, and Recover—across its operations. The certification evaluates how effectively waste is diverted from landfills, marking a key milestone in environmentally responsible airport management.

With this achievement, LGBIA joins other major airports under Adani Airports Holdings Limited (AAHL), including Trivandrum International Airport, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Jaipur International Airport and Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, in attaining this high standard of waste management.

Additionally, the Guwahati airport has secured Level L3 traceability for its processed waste, ensuring a transparent and reliable system for tracking and managing discarded materials. Officials said the recognition highlights LGBIA’s continued commitment to green initiatives and sustainable airport operations, setting a benchmark for eco-friendly infrastructure in the region.
