Lightning Strike Triggers Fire in Bihaguri, No Casualties Reported

Orang, March 19: A lightning strike in Bihaguri, Sonitpur district, caused a fire in a broiler chicken shed around midnight on March 18. The strike initially hit a bamboo grove near the residence of Bitu Kalita. The fire reportedly spread from the grove to the adjacent poultry shed. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Environmental scientists from the organization Seuj Society highlighted the incident as a warning signal of climate change impacts. They noted that rising temperatures, increased humidity, and atmospheric instability are contributing to more frequent and intense lightning events.

Experts explained that fires initiated by lightning in dry, flammable materials such as bamboo can spread rapidly. They advised residents to avoid open areas during thunderstorms, remove dry vegetation near homes, and consider installing lightning protection systems.

Authorities and environmental workers have emphasized the importance of combining scientific awareness with preventive measures to reduce risks from such natural hazards in the future.
