Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College observed International Yoga Day on June 21 with a special programme organised jointly by the NCC, NSS and Red Ribbon Club at the college auditorium. The event was held in keeping with this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, with an emphasis on promoting awareness about the health benefits of yoga and its role in ensuring a healthy lifestyle.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Principal Dr Sukdev Adhikari along with invited yoga instructor Poly Hazarika of Niyor Yog Sadhana Kendra, Dhekiajuli, NCC Associate NCC Officers Captain Dr Jyotshna Baruah and Lieutenant Dr Pitambar Sedai. Principal Dr Adhikari also felicitated the instructor with a traditional phulam gamosa.
The yoga session began with the chanting of mantras and breathing exercises, followed by various asanas and pranayama practices. The programme concluded with prayers, after which Poly Hazarika delivered a brief address highlighting the importance of yoga in maintaining good health and overall well-being.
Dr Jyotshna Baruah proposed the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the programme. Around 40 NCC cadets and NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the session.
The event was supervised by Dr Manoranjan Baruah, Programme Officer of NSS, Prasanta Boro, Assistant Professor in the Department of Bodo, Md Saiful Islam, Programme Officer of the Red Ribbon Club, and NCC ANOs Captain Dr Jyotshna Baruah and Lieutenant Dr Pitambar Sedai, who also took part in the yoga session.
