North Lakhimpur: A public meeting in connection with the activation of the Lummer Dai Research and Study Centre under the Asom Sahitya Sabha was held successfully in Lakhimpur district on Sunday, drawing participation from literary activists of Arunachal Pradesh as well as Biswanath, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts. The meeting was organised at the Bihpuriya Sakha Sahitya Sabha Bhawan under the joint initiative of the Lummer Dai Research and Study Centre Sub-Committee of Asom Sahitya Sabha and the Bihpuriya Sakha Sahitya Sabha.
The programme began with the rendition of the Asom Sahitya Sabha theme song “Chira Senehi Mor Bhasa Jononi…” by local artistes and was chaired by Apurba Phukan. Explaining the objectives, Sub-Committee secretary Bharat Rajkhowa outlined an action plan that includes organising lecture series on Lummer Dai and Arunachal Pradesh in colleges to promote research among students. The first such programme will be held at Dhemaji College, followed by events in three colleges of Assam and one in Arunachal Pradesh by June 1 next year. A book highlighting the enduring relationship between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh is scheduled for release on June 1, 2026, which will also mark the celebration of Lummer Dai Smriti Divas at Bihpuriya.
Former Arunachal Literary Society president Tokong Pertin, the chief guest, welcomed the initiative and suggested online Assamese language courses and English translations of literary works by Lummer Dai and Yesse Dorze Thongchi. Several literary figures from both states expressed support for the Centre. The meeting also constituted a five-member supervisory committee and adopted key resolutions to ensure the Centre’s sustained functioning.
