Udalguri-Sonitpur, April 2: NDA-backed candidate Maheswar Boro on April 2 criticised the leadership of Pramod Boro, alleging a lack of development in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) over the past five years while campaigning in the 45 No. Vairgaon Assembly constituency.
Addressing an election rally at the old Vairgaon playground in Udalguri district, Boro claimed that funds allocated by the Centre and state were not effectively utilised, resulting in a decline in development compared to earlier years under the Bodoland People’s Front. He asserted that the region had progressed over seventeen years under BPF governance but had “fallen behind” in the last five years.
Projecting confidence in the NDA’s prospects, Boro said the alliance is set to win not only in Vairgaon but across all 15 seats in the BTC. He maintained that a coordinated government at the Centre, state, and council levels would accelerate development in the region.
Appealing to voters, he urged them to support the NDA to ensure that the BTC becomes part of a “developed Assam”. He also promised that if the alliance comes to power, Vairgaon would be upgraded to a full-fledged district, with plans to establish major educational institutions, including a medical college and a university.
The rally followed a series of campaign meetings across the constituency and was organised under the leadership of local youth leader Sanjay Rabha. Several party leaders, including Mahendra Basumatary, Phatik Kachari, Narayan Rabha and Rabin Gowala, were present and addressed the gathering in support of Boro’s candidature.
