Guwahati, March 8: A 26-year-old man has been taken into police custody in Assam’s Cachar district following the alleged rape of a four-and-a-half-year-old girl.
The arrest, confirmed by police on March 7, followed a formal complaint lodged by the child’s family the previous day. According to the allegations, the accused entered the family’s residence while the adults were away and lured the minor to his own home by promising to buy her chocolates.The gravity of the situation escalated when the child was discovered near a tea garden later that evening.
Upon being found, the girl informed her family members that the suspect had gagged her and subjected her to sexual assault. Acting on this testimony, the father approached the authorities to seek justice, leading to the immediate registration of a case under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Law enforcement initiated a search operation shortly after the complaint was filed, which successfully resulted in the apprehension of the accused.
To ensure the integrity of the legal process and the well-being of the victim, the minor’s statement has been officially recorded, and she has undergone a mandatory medical examination. These investigative steps were conducted under the strict supervision of the Child Welfare Committee.
While the suspect remains in custody, police officials have stated that a further investigation into the case is currently underway to ensure all facts are thoroughly established.
