Nagaon, August 1:The body of a man bearing apparent stab injuries was recovered from the Nonoi Tea Garden under the jurisdiction of the Jalna Police Outpost in Assam’s Nagaon district on August 1, prompting police to launch a murder investigation.
The deceased was identified as Zakir Hussain, a resident of Telia Chapori Toop in Rupahihat.
According to his family, Zakir had left home on July 31, telling them he was travelling to Chapanala to collect stones for house construction. When he failed to return, concern grew among his relatives.
His body was later recovered under mysterious circumstances from the tea garden by Jalna Police. Preliminary findings revealed visible injury marks, leading investigators to suspect that he had been assaulted and killed.
Police sent the body to Nagaon Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Investigators have begun an inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those responsible and establish the motive behind the suspected killing.
The incident has left Zakir Hussain’s family in mourning, with grief prevailing at his residence in Telia Chapori Toop as relatives await the outcome of the investigation.
