An individual was shot and seriously injured at Kharputia in Assam’s Darrang district on Monday night following a dispute over a financial transaction. The victim, identified as Munna Saha, was reportedly shot during an altercation with local businessman Ananta Biswas.
According to sources, Saha had lent money to Biswas, and the disagreement escalated on Monday night at Biswas’s jewellery shop. The argument turned violent, culminating in gunfire.
Saha sustained a bullet injury and was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for urgent treatment.
Police reached the spot soon after the incident and recovered a 9mm pistol along with two live cartridges from the shop. Biswas was taken into custody for questioning, and an investigation was launched to establish the sequence of events.
Residents expressed shock, noting that such incidents are rare in the area.
