Imphal, March 30: Security forces in Manipur carried out two coordinated anti-narcotics operations on March 28 and 29, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of significant quantities of suspected heroin and cannabis, officials said.
In the latest operation on March 29, security personnel apprehended Sehkholien (52), a resident of Saikulphai village in Jiribam district, from a stretch between Chhotobekra and Latingkhal under Jiribam Police Station. Authorities recovered around 5.2 kilograms of ganja concealed in five plastic packets from his possession. A two-wheeler, identified as a TVS NTORQ scooter, was also seized during the operation.
Earlier on March 28, a joint team of security forces and the Narcotics Control Bureau intercepted two vehicles—a DI Tata and a Scorpio—at Ngathal ground in Churachandpur district. The drivers, identified as Paumuanlian Tungnung (23) of Vaal Veng village and Lianminthang Neihsial (26) of Nazareth village in Saikot, were taken into custody.
During the search, officials recovered a total of 207 soap cases containing suspected heroin from the vehicles, indicating a major attempt to transport contraband through the region.
Authorities said investigations in both cases are ongoing as part of intensified efforts to curb drug trafficking networks in the state.
