Imphal, May 26: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on May 26 expressed happiness over the posthumous conferment of the Padma Award on noted Manipuri cultural personality Yumnam Jatra Singh for his contribution to the field of Art.
In a message shared on X, the Chief Minister paid tribute to the late cultural figure, describing him as a distinguished practitioner of Nat Sankirtana and a towering figure in Manipur’s cultural landscape whose contributions continue to inspire future generations.
Singh said Yumnam Jatra Singh’s legacy remains deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the state and acknowledged his role in preserving and promoting traditional artistic practices.
The Chief Minister also extended his congratulations to several personalities from the Northeast who were honoured with the Padma Shri this year for their contributions across different sectors. Those recognised include Kabindra Purkayastha (Posthumous) in Public Affairs, Jogesh Deuri in Agriculture, Nuruddin Ahmed in Art, Pokhila Lekthepi in Art, and Haricharan Saikia.
The honours were conferred during the Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu.
The Manipur Chief Minister said the recognition given to personalities from the Northeast reflected the region’s rich cultural traditions, artistic achievements and wider contributions to the country.
