Manipur Commando Killed in Stabbing During Anti-Drug Operation in Thoubal

Imphal, June 4: A police commando was killed after being stabbed during an anti-drug operation in Thoubal on Wednesday, June 4, officials said.

The deceased, identified as Head Constable Khoirom Suresh of the Thoubal Commando unit, was part of a police team conducting an operation against suspected drug-related activities at Moijing Meena Bazar Thongkhong under Thoubal Police Station limits.

According to police, the incident occurred around 8 pm when security personnel attempted to apprehend a suspect linked to a drug case. During the operation, the officer was allegedly attacked with a knife and sustained critical injuries.

He was immediately taken to Thoubal District Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.

Police have arrested two persons in connection with the incident, identified as Md Naobi alias Mahil, a 25-year-old resident of Moijing Leingoijin, and Salman Khan, around 30 years old from Moijing Maibam Leikai.

Authorities said further investigation is underway and efforts are continuing to identify and arrest others involved in the attack.

The killing has raised serious concern over the risks faced by security personnel engaged in anti-narcotics operations, as Manipur Police intensify their crackdown on drug trafficking networks across the state.
