Manipur Governor Inaugurates Agri-Youth Parliament 2026, Stresses Innovation-Led Agriculture

Imphal, March 21: Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Saturday inaugurated the Agrivision Agri-Youth Parliament–2026 at Central Agricultural University, underscoring the need for innovation-driven agriculture to unlock the potential of the Northeast.

The three-day event, centred on the theme “Futuristic Agriculture for North East Bharat: Sustainability, Innovations and Opportunities,” focuses on emerging research, technological advancements, and new solutions in agriculture and allied sectors.

Ahead of the inauguration, the Governor visited exhibition stalls along with Vice-Chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra, interacting with participants, innovators, and entrepreneurs, and reviewing displays of agricultural technologies and indigenous products. The programme was also attended by Dr Dipjyoti Rajkhowa, along with academicians, researchers, and students. Bhalla also released the Souvenir-cum-Abstract Book during the event.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said the Agri-Youth Parliament provides a critical platform for youth and stakeholders to shape the future of agriculture in the region. He emphasised that achieving the vision of a developed India would depend on empowering young people and transforming the sector through innovation and enterprise.

Highlighting the strengths of Manipur, he pointed to its rich biodiversity and traditional knowledge systems, citing products such as Chakhao, Kachai Lemon, and Tamenglong Orange as examples with strong potential for global recognition through scientific support and improved market access.

Bhalla further stressed the importance of integrating traditional farming practices with modern technology, promoting climate-resilient agriculture, strengthening infrastructure, and enhancing market linkages, while encouraging entrepreneurship among youth.

The Agri-Youth Parliament aims to facilitate dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration to drive sustainable and inclusive agricultural development across the Northeast.
