Manipur Governor Seeks Centre’s Intervention to Restore Flight Connectivity to Imphal

Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has written to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, urging urgent intervention to restore and improve air connectivity to and from Imphal.

In his letter, the Governor expressed concern over the sharp decline in flight operations, particularly between Imphal and major hubs like Guwahati and Kolkata. He noted that the number of daily flights to Guwahati has dropped from five to two, while services to Kolkata have fallen from five to just two, with no early morning or late evening options available.

Calling the situation “alarming,” Bhalla highlighted that limited railway connectivity and unreliable road travel have made air transport the only dependable mode of travel for residents, students, and patients. The reduction in flights, he added, has also caused airfares to soar, creating severe inconvenience for the public.

The Governor stressed that the winter season is particularly crucial as many students return home and patients travel for medical treatment in metropolitan cities. He urged the Civil Aviation Minister to personally intervene and ensure affordable and reliable air services to key destinations.

The Raj Bhavan stated that it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure swift and effective action in the interest of Manipur’s people.
