Manipur Leaders Condemn Kangpokpi Civilian Killings, Demand Swift Action and Justice

Imphal, June 5: The killing of three civilians and the destruction of houses in Loibol village under New Keithelmanbi in Kangpokpi district has drawn strong condemnation from Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen, who have called for urgent action against those responsible.

Expressing deep anguish over the incident, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen described the deaths of Letkhongam Haokip, Tinmary Haokip and Jangminlal Haokip as a heartbreaking tragedy that has left the community in grief and sorrow. In a statement, she said she was deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives, including a woman, in the incident and strongly condemned all forms of violence targeting civilians, adding that such acts only deepen suffering and undermine efforts to build peace and security.

She further extended condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen also strongly condemned what he termed a brutal attack on Loibol Khullen village, which resulted in civilian deaths and widespread destruction of homes and property. He said the targeting of innocent people and their livelihoods was unacceptable and demanded that those responsible be identified and brought to justice without delay.

Calling the incident a barbaric act, the legislator urged Central forces, state security agencies and the Government of India to take immediate and decisive steps to restore security in the region, protect vulnerable villages and prevent further violence. He also sought urgent relief and rehabilitation measures for affected families.

The remarks come amid rising concern over the security situation in parts of Kangpokpi district following the attack, which left three people dead and several houses damaged or destroyed. Residents have also called for stronger security deployment and swift justice for the victims, while authorities are yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident.
