Manipur Mother Seeks Justice After Children Killed in Moirang Attack

Imphal, April 12: A woman whose two young children were killed in a late-night attack at Moirang Tronglaobi in Manipur on April 7 has appealed for justice, stating that those responsible remain unidentified even as concerns over civilian safety continue to grow in the conflict-hit region.

Oinam Binita, the mother of the victims, recounted the incident, saying her children were asleep when the attack occurred. She described the loss as devastating, adding that her younger child stopped responding during the incident after appearing exhausted.

Her husband, a personnel of the Border Security Force, was on duty at the time. Binita said the family had relied on the presence of security forces for protection, believing they would ensure safety in the area.

The incident took place in Moirang Tronglaobi, a locality that has witnessed heightened tensions in recent weeks amid ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur. The killing of the two children has intensified fears over the safety of civilians, particularly in vulnerable regions affected by the conflict.

Local residents have expressed anger over the incident, alleging lapses in security and demanding accountability. Binita described her children as “martyrs” and said she would continue to seek justice until those responsible are brought to book.

Authorities have not officially confirmed the identity of the perpetrators. However, there is suspicion among sections of the population that Kuki militant groups may be involved, in line with patterns seen in recent incidents. Security agencies have yet to issue a detailed update on the investigation.

The tragedy has added to the rising civilian toll in Manipur’s prolonged unrest, which has been marked by repeated violence, displacement, and targeted attacks. The incident has also renewed calls for stronger security measures to safeguard civilian populations in affected areas.
