Imphal, April 5: Manipur Police on April 4 arrested three active members of the proscribed KCP (PWG) during coordinated operations across Imphal East and Imphal West districts, acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding militant activities.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Thangjam Yaiphaba Meitei (32), also known as Rabi alias Piktru, from Yumnam Patlou Mamang Leikai in Imphal East; Laitonjam Ramakanta Meitei (35), alias Bothe, originally from Uyumpok Maning Leikai and currently residing in Khurai Arambam Leirak; and Thongam Herojit (39), alias Gudupao, from Tendongyang Mayai Leikai in Imphal West. All three were apprehended from their respective residences.
During the operation, security personnel seized three mobile phones and two Aadhaar cards. Officials indicated that the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities in the region.
In a separate development on April 3, a substantial cache of arms and explosives was recovered near Yangoubung village under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district, along the stretch between border pillars 72 and 73. The recovered items included an AK-47 rifle with magazine, two 9 mm pistols with magazines, detonators, batteries, a tactical radio set, a first aid kit, and Myanmar currency amounting to 16,800 kyats.
Security teams also located 16 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the site, which were safely destroyed in situ. Authorities believe the recovery has potentially disrupted planned insurgent activities in the sensitive border area.
Further investigation is underway to establish possible links between the seized materials and militant networks operating along the India-Myanmar border.
