Manipur Police Arrest Digital Creator for Alleged Provocative Content Circulation

Imphal: Manipur Police arrested a 25-year-old digital content creator on November 24 for allegedly producing and sharing video content intended to stir distrust between social groups. The accused, identified as Yumkhaibam Shantikumar from Tangkham Awang Leikai in Imphal East district, was taken into custody following an inquiry into his recent online activity.

According to officials, Shantikumar was seen recording street interviews in which he posed leading and suggestive questions, raising concerns that the material could fuel misinformation, conspiracy-driven narratives and intimidation. Police stated that the videos carried elements capable of disrupting public order, especially at a time when the State remains sensitive to communal issues.

Authorities confirmed that a formal investigation is underway to establish whether the content was created with deliberate intent or as part of a coordinated effort to spread inflammatory material. The case has also prompted renewed calls for ethical conduct among digital influencers, with officials urging creators not to engage in actions that could undermine public peace or violate legal guidelines.

The incident highlights growing scrutiny on digital content amid concerns over misinformation and its impact on social stability in conflict-affected regions.
