Manipur Police Arrest KYKL Cadre and Associate, Seize Ammunition and Explosives in Imphal West

Manipur Police arrested an active member of the banned militant outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup and his associate in separate operations in Imphal West district, recovering a cache of ammunition and explosives, officials said. The arrests form part of ongoing efforts to dismantle militant networks operating in the state.

The primary arrest was made on December 25, when police picked up Salam Shyam Singh, 44, a resident of Sega Road Takhellambam Leikai in Imphal West. He was apprehended from a rented house at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai under the jurisdiction of Imphal Police Station, following specific intelligence inputs.

Based on follow-up information, security forces later detained his associate, Salam Naobi Singh, 43, from his residence at Nongmaikhong Awang Leikai in Kakching district. Officials said the ammunition and explosives recovered during the operation had been handed over to him for safekeeping.

Subsequent searches led to the seizure of 111 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, one No. 36 high-explosive grenade without a detonator, two detonators, two mobile phones and two Aadhaar cards. The recovered materials were taken into custody for further examination.

Police said the arrests are linked to sustained operations against militant groups in Manipur. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the seized arms and explosives and to establish possible connections with other operatives or networks active in the region.
