Manipur Police on Friday arrested an active cadre linked to the banned Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) on charges of extortion. The accused, identified as Thangjam Surankumar Singh, also known as Rajesh, Achou and Luwangcha, was held from Meitei Lamkhai Crossing under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal East district.
Police recovered a mobile phone with SIM card, a wallet containing an Aadhaar card and Rs 300 in cash from his possession. Officials said further investigation was underway to determine his involvement in extortion activities and possible links with other operatives.
Meanwhile, security forces continued search and area domination operations across vulnerable areas of the state. A total of 114 checkpoints were set up across hill and valley districts, while 69 vehicles carrying essential commodities were escorted safely along National Highway-37 under strict security arrangements.
