Manipur Police Arrest RPF/PLA Cadre, Recover Large Cache of Arms in Joint Anti-Militancy Operation

Imphal, June 23: Manipur Police arrested an active member of the banned RPF/PLA during an operation carried out at Khumanlampak near the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Imphal West district on June 22. The arrested individual was identified as 29-year-old Oinam Dhanaraj Singh, also known as Abung, a resident of Leirongthel Pitra in Yairipok, Thoubal district. A Honda Activa scooter was seized during the operation.

In another operation conducted on June 21, security personnel apprehended two alleged extortionists associated with the KCP (MFL) from Thoubal Bazar under the jurisdiction of Thoubal Police Station. The arrested men were identified as Abujam Sumit Singh alias Tangbi (20), who is currently residing at Pheidinga in Imphal West district, and Makuchung Gangmei (23) from Khoupum Gahtao in Noney district. Authorities recovered 48 donation cards from their possession.

Meanwhile, a large-scale joint operation involving Manipur Police, the CRPF, RAF, COBRA and the Army resulted in the seizure of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from several areas, including Leilon Vaiphei, Leilon Munlui, Molhoi, P. Moulding and Leilon Khunou.

The operation was launched on June 20 following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of armed militants in the region. Security personnel reportedly exchanged fire with suspected militants during the course of the operation, which continued for two days.

During the searches, forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, an M4 Carbine, two SLRs, an SKS rifle, an improvised .303 sniper rifle, 17 single and double-barrel guns, and 11 SBL rifles. A quantity of assorted ammunition, communication devices and other war-like stores was also seized.

Security agencies stated that search operations and area domination exercises are continuing in sensitive areas to counter militant activities and dismantle extortion networks operating in the state.
