Imphal, Feb 26: In a significant development for regional security, a serving member of the Manipur Police was apprehended on February 24 for his suspected involvement with a proscribed militant organization. The individual, identified as 43-year-old Kongkham Sanajaoba Singh, also known as Ibomcha, was working as a constable driver within the state police department at the time of his arrest. A resident of Utlou Chanura under the jurisdiction of the Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district, Singh was taken into custody from his home locality during a targeted security operation.
According to official reports, Singh is accused of leading a double life by maintaining active membership in the Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Faction), or KCP (MFL). Despite his formal role as a law enforcement officer, he allegedly operated covertly as a cadre for the banned outfit, focusing specifically on the recruitment of new members into its ranks. The KCP (MFL) remains on the list of prohibited organizations due to its continued history of insurgent operations and unlawful activities across the state of Manipur.
Security sources have indicated that the operation was triggered by specific intelligence inputs pointing toward Singh’s underground affiliations and his efforts to bolster the militant group’s manpower. Following his apprehension, authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the full scale of his involvement. Investigators are currently working to map out his wider network and are looking into whether his position within the police force allowed him to compromise any sensitive departmental information.
