Imphal: Manipur Police have launched a series of high-impact operations this week, resulting in the apprehension of several key militant operatives and the seizure of a significant cache of weapons, underscoring a sustained effort to dismantle armed groups and their support networks across the state. The latest arrest occurred on November 23, when officers detained Huidrom Vikash Singh, 25, an operative of the KCP (PWG) extortion gang, from the Thongju Waikhom Khongnang area in Canchipur, Imphal West. The militant, also known by the alias Sanamacha, who is originally from Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai under Singjamei Police Station, was found in possession of a mobile phone believed to have been used in various extortion-related activities.
Earlier in the week, police achieved a major success at the Kakching Police Station Gate checkpoint by intercepting Yumnam Tomba Singh, 56, who was identified as an active RPF/PLA cadre. The operation yielded one of the largest seizures in recent weeks, recovering a 7.62 LMG, a .303 LMG, an SLR rifle, 583 rounds of assorted ammunition, and a mobile phone. Concurrently, security personnel detained Oinam Bishorjit Singh, 28, from his residence at Thiyam Leishangkhong Leirak in Imphal West on suspicion of extorting funds for the KCP (PWG). Officials confiscated a mobile phone and $₹34,000$ in cash, which authorities suspect are connected to illicit collections.
In another operation focused on militant groups, Konjengbam Chandrakumar Singh, 40, an active RPF/PLA cadre residing at Takyelpat Government Polytechnic Quarter Type-III, was arrested in Imphal West. This action led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol with a magazine, 13 live rounds of ammunition, and two mobile phones. The preceding day also saw action from Central Forces, who apprehended Konjenbam Sanathoi Singh, an 18-year-old PREPAK (PRO) member, near Moreh Gate No. 2 in Tengnoupal district. Furthermore, the Manipur Police separately recovered a concealed .38 pistol and two live rounds from the Heirangoithong bridge area under Singjamei Police Station on November 22. Authorities have affirmed that these intensified, intelligence-led operations will continue as part of their ongoing strategy to weaken the extortion networks and militant groups currently operating within the state.
